Volunteer Legal Services is in need of Intake Specialists for the morning Eviction Dockets that happen 3 times a week. They hope to have 1-2 specialists per docket.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who is not currently employed but wants to give back to the community or a paralegal student who wants to get some experience working with lawyers and clients. This is also a good fit for employed paralegals who have flexibility in their schedule and would like to participate in some pro bono volunteering!

Eviction Docket Schedule

Eviction Docket JP5 - Mondays 8:30am-10:30am

Eviction Docket JP2 – Wednesdays 9:00am-11am

Eviction Docket JP1 - Thursdays 10am-12:00pm

As an intake specialist, you will help our neighbors facing eviction by attending an Eviction Docket via Zoom and supporting the administrative needs of VLS attorney volunteers. Your intake interview will ensure that our help and resources are properly allocated to those within our community with the most financial need. There will always be VLS staff and other volunteers present to assist you when needed.

If you have any questions about volunteering as an intake specialist, please contact Rafael Rojas, VLS Housing Stability Coordinator, or Hollie Toups, VLS Director of Pro Bono Services.

You can also just sign up here on Volunteer Hub:     https://vls.volunteerhub.com/

Here are more details about the volunteer duties:

Eviction Docket Intake Specialist (by Zoom)The VLS Intake Specialist will join the VLS Staff attorney, Housing Stability Coordinator and VLS volunteer attorneys in a breakout room. The Intake Specialist will assist the Housing Stability Coordinator in determining a client’s financial eligibility, as well as collecting the necessary contact and demographic information. All the necessary forms will be available for the specialist to complete via a Google form. This process should take no more than an hour for most dockets, and during that time you will speak with 2-3 clients.
