Family Reunification for Children in Immigration Custody

(Presented by the Austin Bar Association)

Over 20,000 unaccompanied migrant children are in immigration custody right now, and 90% of them have a relative in the US who can sponsor them.  Fifty percent have a biological parent here. The Austin-based organization VECINA has launched a Family Reunification Project to train and mentor pro bono attorneys to assist sponsors with reunification paperwork. This CLE will discuss why we are seeing the influx of children at the border, the process of reunification and release from detention, and how you can get involved helping immigrant children and their sponsors.  These cases are perfect for pro bono work because they require no immigration experience and are discrete projects with massive impact in the lives of the families you will represent.  Interpreters, administrative support, training, and guidance for pro bono attorneys are included in our program.

Please register for this online event here. Once registered, you will receive the link to the Zoom meeting.

If you cannot make the event, learn more about VECINA and see how you can get involved to help reunite children with their families here.

Thanks again to CAPA members who donate their time and talent, and for all you do to help make the world a better place
