CLE: Ethics and the Legislative Lawyer

  • October 28, 2019
  • 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM
  • Capitol Extension Auditorium, 1100 Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78701

The Legal Division of the Texas Legislative Council is holding its annual MCLE legal ethics seminar on Monday, October 28, 2019, from 2 pm to 4:20 pm in the Capitol Extension Auditorium.

The course, titled "Ethics and the Legislative Lawyer," will cover selected legal ethics and professional responsibility topics with emphasis on issues affecting in-house counsel generally and lawyers serving in government and the legislative branch in particular. Written materials will be included that should be sufficient to provide at least one hour of additional self-study MCLE credit in legal ethics.

We are seeking to have the seminar accredited for two hours of participatory MCLE credit in legal ethics/professional responsibility by the Minimum Continuing Legal Education Committee of the State Bar of Texas. We are in the application process and will keep registrants informed of the accreditation status of this year's course.

The council’s legal ethics course is open without charge to all attorneys and other personnel in the legislative branch. Attorneys from other offices who wish to attend will be registered conditionally and may attend to the extent space is available. We expect that we will not have to turn away anyone interested in attending.

To register, please email Heather Strain in the TLC Legal Division at Heather.Strain@tlc.texas.gov.  You will receive a confirmation of your registration in a few weeks and we will also send periodic updates and reminders before the class date. Direct any other questions to Maria Breitschopf at (512) 463-1151 or Maria.Breitschopf@tlc.texas.gov.
