2016 LEGAL ETHICS CLE COURSE FOR LEGISLATIVE LAWYERS

ETHICS AND THE LEGISLATIVE LAWYER MCLE COURSE TO BE HELD TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2016

The Legal Division of the Texas Legislative Council is holding its annual MCLE legal ethics seminar on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, from 2 pm to 4:15 pm in the Capitol Extension Auditorium

The course, titled "Ethics and the Legislative Lawyer," will cover selected legal ethics and professional responsibility topics with emphasis on issues affecting in-house counsel generally and lawyers serving in government and the legislative branch in particular.  Written materials will be included that should be sufficient to provide at least one hour of additional self-study MCLE credit in legal ethics.

We are seeking to have the seminar accredited for two hours of participatory MCLE credit in legal ethics/professional responsibility by the Minimum Continuing Legal Education Committee of the State Bar of Texas.  We are in the application process and will keep registrants informed of the accreditation status of this year's course.

The council’s legal ethics course is open without charge to all attorneys and other personnel in the legislative branch, as well as paralegals outside the legislative branch.  Attorneys and paralegals from other offices who wish to attend will be registered conditionally and may attend to the extent space is available.  We expect that we will not have to turn away anyone interested in attending.

To register, please email Thomas Kelly in the TLC Legal Division at thomas.kelly@tlc.texas.gov.  You will receive a confirmation of your registration and periodic updates and reminders after we receive your registration request.  Direct any other questions to Jeff Archer at 463-1155 or jeff.archer@tlc.texas.gov.

For those not familiar with the capitol, the auditorium is in the Capitol Extension (the underground part) just across the seal court from the Capitol Grill (aka, the cafeteria), which makes it convenient for those who would want to attend the CLE and get some lunch.

Parking is available in the parking garage near the Texas State Library & Archives building, which is next door to the Capitol.
