The Travis County District Clerk maintains the official record of all court proceedings heard in the District Courts and some cases in County Court-at-Law 4. this involves criminal, civil, and family/ domestic relations cases.
The Criminal Division maintains case records on felonies, some misdemeanor cases, and grand jury proceedings. part of the District Clerk's duties on criminal cases is to issue arrest warrants, commitments to jail, subpoenas, prepare judgments, and appeal records.
The Civil Division maintains case records in cases including but not limited to tort, contract, real estate, consumer and tax collections. Since Travis County is the home of the State Capital, the Civil division also receives appeals of nearly all state administrative agency rulings. The Family Division maintains case records in cases including but not limited to divorces, child support, custody, adoptions, family protection, and name changes. In addition to maintaining records, the family and civil division issue citations, subpoenas, writs, abstracts of judgment, name change certificates, and appeal records.
The District Clerk also manages juries for District, County Court at Law, Justice of the Peace, and Austin Municipal Courts. In addition, the District Clerk is a passport acceptance agency and collects fees, fines, and court costs.
