* NOTICE:  Membership Renewals are DUE each January 1st and become delinquent on March 1st. New and Renewal Applications for Paralegals and Sustaining Members are located below.


 * Membership Criteria & Information

CAPA currently has over 250 members, and the numbers continue to grow every year. CAPA offers the following membership types:

* Voting Members of CAPA must be currently employed as a paralegal and meet one of the following criteria:

  1. a four-year degree;
  2. completion of a paralegal program;
  3. five years of paralegal experience; or
  4. NALA, NFPA or TBLS certification.

* Associate Members of CAPA must meet one of the following criteria:

  1. currently employed as a paralegal, but has not yet satisfied the requirements of Voting members;
  2. presently employed as a coordinator or supervisor of a paralegal program;
  3. not currently employed as a paralegal, but has completed a paralegal training program; or
  4. has previously been employed as a paralegal, but is not employed at the time of application.

* Student Members of CAPA must be enrolled in a paralegal program at the time of application.

* Sustaining Members of CAPA are lawyers, law firms, government agencies, paralegal training programs, institutions and other vendors who serve the legal community. The vendors have an opportunity to network with CAPA members and promote their services at CAPA functions. Sustaining Members also provide valuable services and sponsorships for CAPA events. * Annual Membership Dues:

  • $10 Initiation Fee ~ Due only on first signup (unless delinquent renewal)
  • $50 Voting Membership
  • $30 Associate Membership
  • $25 Student Membership
  • $75 Sustaining Membership
  • Discounts apply to partial-year memberships ~ see Application.


* Benefits of CAPA Membership
  • Monthly luncheon meetings (except December), most offering CLE credit. These meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month from 11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.
  • Monthly newsletter consisting of legal and paralegal articles, calendar of events, Board of Directors minutes, reports of CAPA's committees, upcoming CLE events and legal and general information.
  • CLE opportunities, including speakers at monthly luncheons, CLA study group, brown bag lunch topics and legal assistant seminars (both full day and evening).
  • Opportunities to participate in special projects and become involved by serving on one of CAPA's committees.
  • Social networking opportunities with other professionals, including monthly luncheons, committee service, happy hours and socials, and Legal Assistants Day and Christmas Parties.
  • Membership in a professional association affiliated with NALA.
  • Members are recognized through special promotions and events.
  • CAPA members may write articles for the newsletter (both legal and general) and are offered leadership opportunities.
  • Access to the CAPA Job Bank.
  • Access to CAPA's Membership Directory and Group Email reminder service and postings.  
  • Access to CAPA website, calendar and legal weblinks.
  • Access to CAPA's Sustaining Members and legal support vendor services.



* Membership Applications and Address Changes


Paralegal Members include Voting, Associate, or Student Memberships. Sustaining Members are attorneys, law offices, paralegal schools, legal support vendors, government agencies, and corporate offices, etc.

* Please remember to update your address or other contact information (email addresses!) if you relocate -- this is the only way CAPA will be able to continue providing membership benefits to you.

* CAPA Email Group Reminders and Notices

CAPA members can keep on top of CAPA events by subscribing to our Membership Email Group. CAPA sends out periodic reminders about monthly luncheon meetings, speakers, menus and signup deadlines, as well as notices for CAPA special events, program information, community services, or CAPA breaking news.

New and renewing members have the option on their Membership Application to be included in CAPA's Email Group. If you did not originally make this election on your Membership Application or have recently joined CAPA and are not receiving our email notices, you can sign up here for CAPA's Email Group. This free email service is currently provided by Yahoo! Groups.

* Email Privacy. This service is a benefit for our members' convenience only and is not intended to be misused or become a nuisance to your email box. Your email address is not sold or shared with any outside vendor, and you will not be subject to "spam" email because you sign up for this free service. In addition, you can unsubscribe at any time you elect no longer to receive CAPA's email reminders. Please respect the rights of other CAPA members who elect to sign up for our Email Group by not releasing their email addresses and by not using our Email Group as a means for spamming or outside marketing. Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining our members' privacy!

CAPA maintains a complete Membership Directory based upon your membership applications and address change updates. In order to serve you better, it is important that you keep CAPA apprised of your changes (including email addresses). You may elect to publish your personal details in the Membership Directory or not by selecting your personal options on your Membership Application or by updating CAPA using our Online Address Change Form or via email: Membership@capatx.org.

* Confidentiality. Benefits to CAPA members include access to this restricted Membership Directory. Please do not share access to this CAPA roster or access to our directory webpage with non-members. Confidentiality of our members' personal information is important, and we appreciate your cooperation and courtesy in maintaining their personal privacy. Please respect your fellow CAPA members by properly securing your membership password.

* Your Contact Info. If your personal contact information is incorrect in our Membership Directory, or if you would like to change your election to allow CAPA to publish your details in the Membership Directory, please update your information by using our
Online Address Change Form or via email:


* Member Access. The CAPA Membership Directory webpage is password protected, Access and usage of this webpage and its contents are restricted to CAPA members only. Members will receive a membership password to access CAPA's restricted online services at the time of membership application or renewal. If you lose your password, please contact CAPA's
