Blue Bullet CLA/CP Study Group ~ for the NALA Certified Legal Assistant/Certified Paralegal Exams. If you are a CAPA member preparing to take the CLA/CP Exam or if you are interested in brushing up on your professional skills and knowledge as a paralegal, then consider joining with other CAPA members and section leaders to study essential paralegal topics.

*  Fees: No charge, except for incidental copying charges if needed.

*  Printed Handouts: Some Section Leaders may have printed handouts; incidential printing costs may apply.

*  Study Materials:NALA Manual for Paralegals (5E); NALA CLA Review Manual (2E); NALA CLA Study Guide & Mock Exam (4E); The Elements of Style by Strunk & White (3E) is used for the Communications section; and A Uniform System of Citation, Harvard Law Review Association, is used for the Legal Research section. Please arrange purchase of these materials independently (not provided through CAPA); available through NALA or local bookstores ~ or get together with a study partner to share expenses.

* CAPA Monthly Meetings ~ CLE

Most CAPA monthly luncheon meetings have a topical speaker on a legal subject which provides approved CLE credit under both NALA and TBLS. Please pick up your CLE credit slips at the monthly meetings. These are great opportunities to continue your legal education, develop new skills, and update your knowledge on changing laws, regulations, and court practices. Don't miss out while other paralegals are getting the job done at their law firms with fresher and more accurate legal education.

* CAPA Brown Bag and Sponsored CLE Luncheons

CAPA members can take advantage of this series of CLE opportunities, held during the lunch hour. Some of the meetings are sponsored by a Sustaining Member, so lunch is provided at no cost to CAPA members (a "Sponsored CLE"). Others are true "Brown Bag" sessions. *Nancy McLaughlin Scholarships ~

Nancy Carmen McLaughlin, CLAS, TPS, was a very active member of CAPA and the Paralegal Division of the State Bar of Texas (now known as the Paralegal Division) until her sudden death in 2000. * Advanced Paralegal Certification Program ~ In 2006, NALA unveiled a new web-based format for the advanced certification program which replaces the CLA Specialty ("CLAS") Program and exams. Paralegals who have a valid CLA/CP certification credential from NALA and successfully complete an Advanced Paralegal Certification course are awarded use of the credential "ACP," Advanced Certified Paralegal.
