Membership Criteria & Information
Types of Membership
CAPA offers the following membership types:
A Voting Member of CAPA must be currently employed as a paralegal and meet one of the following criteria:
- a four-year degree;
- completion of a paralegal program;
- five years of paralegal experience; or
- NALA, NFPA or TBLS certification.
Associate Member of CAPA must meet one of the following criteria:

currently employed as a paralegal, but has not yet satisfied the requirements of Voting members;

presently employed as a coordinator or supervisor of a paralegal program;

not currently employed as a paralegal, but has completed a paralegal training program; or
-
has previously been employed as a paralegal, but is not employed at the time of application.
Student Member of CAPA must be enrolled in a paralegal program at the time of application.
Sustaining Members of CAPA are lawyers, law firms, government agencies, paralegal training programs, institutions and other vendors who serve the legal community. The vendors have an opportunity to network with CAPA members and promote their services at CAPA functions. Sustaining Members also provide valuable services and sponsorships for CAPA events. Annual Membership Dues
- $10 Initiation Fee ~ Due only on first sign-up (unless delinquent renewal)
- $50 Voting Membership
- $30 Associate Membership
- $25 Student Membership
- $75 Sustaining Membership
- Discounts apply to partial-year memberships: Applicants for INITIAL membership between July 1 and October 31 of any year pay the $10.00 initiation fee and one-half (1/2) the annual dues for membership through December 31 of that same year. Applicants for INITIAL membership between November 1 and December 31 pay the $10.00 initiation fee plus the full annual dues for membership through December 31 of the following year.

Benefits of CAPA Membership

Monthly luncheon meetings (except December), most offering CLE credit, held on the last Wednesday of each month from 11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.

Monthly newsletter consisting of legal and paralegal articles, calendar of events, Board of Directors minutes, reports of CAPA's committees, upcoming CLE events and legal and general information.
- CLE opportunities, including speakers at monthly luncheons, CP/CLA study group, brown bag lunch topics and paralegal seminars (both full day and evening).
